Hello I am Daniel.

I figured my first post should tell a little bit about why I am writing on I Am Not Second Class and a little about myself.

I have always been a follower of GLBT news and information. Often I would read about what was happening and pretty much that is where it stopped. I just thought that I would, when I have time and when it was convenient, let out my voice and get involved.

Convenience and time.

Well life has a way of letting you know when it is time to stop sitting still and start acting. Now I have less time and it is not very convenient to use that time for anything that is stagnant.

My Partner was diagnosed with cancer in Dec of 2011 and I have been aware of my Second Class rights since about that time.  I was told that I could not get information about him and his diagnosis and what I would have to do to be treated as his partner. I jumped through hoops and made sure everything was done correctly to “remain in the know” about the fight we were about to enter into.

Now when I meet a new doctor or nurse or call the insurance company here is my introduction.  “I am David’s partner and M.P.O.A. holder.”

What I want to say is –    “I am David’s Partner” or  “I am David’s Husband” or “I am David’s other half” and I don’t want the Doctor or nurse or person on the other end of the line to bat an eye.

At work I want to know that if my partner is having a bad day and could use some support from me and some TLC that I am protected by the F.M.L.A. and can call out.

But those rights are not mine yet and now I have a soapbox to begin to let out my voice and get involved.

I feel like these experiences are AWAKING THE LION in me and I need to start here.

I will be using my posts as a chance to make people aware and to hopefully open eyes one at a time to the injustices that are currently happening and  to discuss feelings and emotions associated with these rights and beliefs.

As you can tell I have change the look of the blog. I’m going to see how well this works out. Also two of my friends have offered to write for the blog. I’ll call this IANSC 2.0

 

I love how people tweet that I said something to someone, that I didn’t say, and then they insist I said it even though it wasn’t directed at the person they said I tweeted it too. Ugh…. Idiots on the “right” always trying to make up shit, just to start shit.
